چکیده

the 17th October, with Yomitii?g and purging, the former symptom consisting of the rejection of part of her last meal ?which she had taken four hours previously, and which was said to have consisted of her ordinary articles of diet; the latter of watery stools, which -were passed involuntarily in the patient's clothes to the extent of nine, during the night. These facts were not reported by the father-ir^aw and husband of the -woman, the only other inmates of the house, until 6 the following morning, when she was seen by the hospital assistant, and by myself at 7. From the symptoms at the time there was not the slightest doubt about the nature of the disease, and immediate steps were taken for the evacuation and purification of the hut. I also made enquiries with a view to eliciting any facts throwing light upon the causation of the attack, but utterly failed to do so. The patient, previously a robust young woman, had taken her usual meal at 7 p.m., and appeared to be in perfect health up to the commencement of the described symptoms ; nor had she been in the vicinity of, or in contact with, persons affected by the disease?in fact, as one of the native officers, whose quarters were quite close to hers, informed me, she was " Purdah Nasheen," and rarely was seen outside the walls of the court. The water used by the inmates was from one of the " pukka" wells resorted to by the sepoys ; and, although containing a large quantity of saline matter, as is generally the case in the station, presented no perceptible impurities to account for the occurrence and propagation of cholera.
